I see this book from a mom's perspective. I have this book and so many times I could feel it was like me saying "NO" so many times to my son! I really don't like saying NO all the time, but I guess some times that's one of my jobs of being a mom. I'd much rather be able to say "yes, let's try that" or "Now that you made that mess, you can help me clean up!" and of course "I love you!"
The first thing that came to mind was my son, Garzell. I am always saying hurry up, your time is running out, why did you do that, what were you thinking, and of course I said, NO! However, at the end of the day I tell him I love him and good night. It is amazing how much we say no instead of yes as parents. It just made me realize I need to be more aware of what I am saying and why I say them to my son.
The scene in the book where David is playing ball in the house still happens in our household ALL the time. I'm constantly reminding Jeff to not toss the ball in the house. We have not had any broken vases however.
o my gosh this reminds me of my everyday life! TURN THAT TV OFF,DO NOT SAY THAT TO ME!!!!, DONT DO THAT TO YOUR BROTHER WHATEVER YOU DO TO HIM I WILL DO THE SAME TO YOU!!!!! Im like david every day i also suck-up.
This book reminds me of all of my children. I believe that at least one has tried about everything in the book. My two year old loves to suck her thumb as her finger finds her way to her nose. Yes, UCK!! Why my son has played ball in the house. My oldest loved to make items out of her food. I bet everyone has a story.
My son's name is David, and when he was younger this was one of our favorite books. He was always reminded that no matter how many times he heard the words, "NO David!" we always loved him!
Isn't cool to find a book with your child's name and read it to them? We found a book at a yard sale called Jeff Rides A Rocket Ship and as a pre-schooler it was his favorite book because it had his name.
I can relate to david because my mom gets after me for playing baseball in the house.
